Josh Clemons’ injury on Friday comes after he rushed 10 times for 56 yards in the Blue/White spring game and had hoped to become a key part of the Wildcats’ backfield corps.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Josh Clemons’ Kentucky career is on hold again after an examination Monday confirmed an Achilles tendon injury for the sophomore running back attempting to return from an October 2011 knee injury. He will likely miss the 2013 season after having surgery.

Clemons’ injury on Friday comes after he rushed 10 times for 56 yards in the Blue/White spring game and had hoped to become a key part of the Wildcats’ backfield corps.

Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said in a statement that he was “disappointed” for Clemons “because he has worked so hard and come so far.”

Clemons started three of Kentucky’s first six games as a freshman and was leading the team with 279 rushing yards before hurting his knee at South Carolina. He missed last season and was redshirted.
