Athletes listed in the initial 2019 South Georgia Player Rankings hail from the area south of Macon, Georgia. This includes Albany, Columbus, Savannah, Valdosta, Warner Robins and the vast expanse of rural counties that comprise some of the most fertile recruiting territory in the country.

The initial Class of 2019 Rankings starts off as a modest Top 40. There are already more than 15 juniors claiming FBS offers, with six boasting double digit offers. With the 2017 football season less than a month away more prospects will surface soon.

Starting in the top spot is two-way standout Trezman Marshall of Homerville (Ga.) Clinch County. Last year as a sophomore Marshall was honored as GHSA A-Public First Team All-State by the Georgia Sports Writers Association. He currently has more than a dozen offers from the likes of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami and Michigan.  He projects as either a linebacker or massive every down back at the next level.

Coming in at #2 is Warren McClendon of Brunswick (Ga.) who happens to be one of the most coveted offensive lineman in the country with over 18 offers. This athletic behemoth could project as a guard or tackle. McClendon has scholarship offers from Alabama, Auburn. Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia and LSU just to name a few.

Next is strong side defensive end Curtis Fann, Jr. of Twin City (Ga.) Emanuel County Institute. Last season he racked up 65 tackles, 23 TFL’s, eight sacks and five FF’s. Playing at a GHSA-A school has not deterred his recruiting with schools such as Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, LSU and South Carolina laying claim to his talents.

Another single-A prospect that has captured the attention of college recruiters nationally is offensive center Dylan McMahon of Savannah (Ga.) Savannah Christian Prep. He has recently picked up offers from Boston College, FAU, Georgia State, Indiana and USF. Look for his stock to take off as athletic centers with 4.0 GPA’s don’t grow on trees.

Rounding out the Top Five is athlete Jashawn Sheffield of St. Simons (Ga.) Frederica Academy. Yes, it is a bit of a rarity for GISA Schools to receive nationwide attention from college recruiters. But in Sheffield’s case that simply doesn’t seem to matter as this talented athlete has more than 20 offers. Last year as a sophomore he accounted for 1,177 all-purpose yards and 12 touchdowns in just 11 games. When Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State and Ohio State come calling there has to be a reason why.

Sheffield is not the lone GISA athlete in the (912) with multiple FBS scholarship offers. Teammate Jaylin Simpson already has more than 12 FBS offers after a season that saw him account for 564 all-purpose yards, 41 tackles and five interceptions. Sheffield has many of the same Power Five offers as Sheffield.

Let’s not forget Savannah (Ga.) Memorial Day athlete Winston Wright. The GISA speedster’s stock has really taken off after a dynamic sophomore season where he accounted for 1,202 all-purpose yards, 16 touchdowns and 23 tackles. Wright lit up the recent camp season running multiple sub-4.5 40’s earning offers from Coastal Carolina, FAU, Georgia State, Troy, UCF and Western Kentucky.

This list will not only change over the next few months, but expand as I set my sight on discovering the hidden gems of South Georgia.
