Here are some of the top prospects in the class of 2022 in South Georgia.

Let’s face it, recruiting starts earlier and earlier as college recruiters seek to gain an advantage on their competitors. It’s not uncommon for colleges to offer athletes that have played very little varsity football or none at all. This leads one to believe that many of these early offers are simply not committable.

One major issue with offering athletes this early in their career is the fact they have just one complete semester of academic work. It is nearly impossible to project whether they will meet the NCAA academic requirements to qualify.

My warning to all young athletes is to start your high school academic career on the right foot. Too many young athletes dig a hole during their freshman campaign in the classroom. Remember, offers are only committable if you qualify.

Below is a list, in alphabetical order by last name, of some of the top prospects in the class of 2022 in South Georgia. This list is not a ranking, nor does it guarantee that when the 2022 South Georgia Player Rankings come out later this year that all the names listed below will be in the initial rankings.

Approximately 13 of these potential candidates have played meaningful varsity reps. Meaningful meaning, starting at least half the season on varsity. Only four players listed below have known scholarship offers at this time. We have included the statistics of those freshmen that made a major impact for their respective school.

Bainbridge (Ga.) defensive back Deyon Bouie currently boasts nine offers which include Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Kent State, North Carolina State, Oregon and Tennessee. Bouie was a key member of the Bearcats State Championship Squad recording 31 tackles, 12 PBU’s and six INTs, two of which he returned for score. He also added 349 all-purpose yards while scoring one offensive touchdown.

Just over a week ago Brunswick (Ga.) wide out Syveion Ellis made a verbal commitment to Florida. He also held offers from Colorado State, Georgia Southern, Maryland, Michigan State, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina and Tennessee. Though extremely talented, he has yet to show off his skills at the highest level of high school football.

Someone who did have to opportunity to demonstrate his football acumen is running back Jamie Felix of Kingsland (Ga.) Camden County. This past season he carried the ball 121 times for 738 yards and seven touchdowns while catching 15 passes for 179 yards and a score. What’s amazing about his accomplishments is the fact that he did it in the highest classification in Georgia. He currently has scholarship offers from Mississippi State and Purdue.

The fourth athlete listed below with at least one scholarship offer is Tifton (Ga.) Tift County defensive end Tyre West. West also plays at the GHSA-AAAAAAA level making his inaugural performance even more astonishing. The pass rushing specialist recorded 41 tackles, seven TFL’s and six sacks and currently holds an offer from Tennessee.
