Brunswick (Ga.) offensive lineman Warren McClendon took to twitter this afternoon to announce his intentions of playing college ball at the University of Georgia.

Brunswick (Ga.) offensive lineman Warren McClendon took to twitter this afternoon to announce his intentions of playing college ball at the University of Georgia. At the time of his commitment McClendon held offers from over 25 schools which included Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Miami, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Tennessee.

“Warren is a tremendous person and a great leader for us and he’ll make any team he plays for instantly better,” said Brunswick Head Coach Sean Pender. “He’ll be a great addition for Georgia and Coach Sam Pittman. Pittman did a great job of constantly staying in touch as did South Carolina, the other school Warren was really considering playing at.”

The 6-foot-5, 305-pound offensive tackle is currently the #2-ranked football prospect in the 2019 SoutherPigskin.com South Georgia Player Rankings. He joins Trezman Marshall of Homerville (Ga.) Clinch County, the #1-ranked prospect, as the only commitments to date south of the gnat line.

If the rankings remain constant, it will be the second year in a row that the Bulldogs hauled in the top two players out of South Georgia. Last year Georgia inked Quay Walker of Cordele (Ga.) Crisp County and Otis Reese of Leesburg (Ga.) Lee County the #1 and #2 ranked players respectively. Georgia also signed the #1-ranked offensive lineman in South Georgia last year, Deontrey Hill of Warner Robins (Ga.) Houston County.

“His decision was all about family, for Warren family is always number one,” Pender said. “He grew up a Dawg Fan and he is from Georgia. It’s where he saw himself for the next four to five years and his passion for Georgia was immense, but again he was really torn between the Dawgs and the Gamecocks.”

McClendon becomes the second highly touted offensive line prospect to commit to Georgia in the 2019 class. He joins fellow offensive tackle Xavier Truss of Warwick (R.I.) Bishop Hendricken who measures in at 6-foot-7.5, 350-pounds. The pair possibly makes the largest bookends to commit to the Bulldogs in a single class in school history.

For avid fans that follow high school football recruiting religiously, McClendon is currently ranked the #228 player in the country by 247Sports and the #25 ranked offensive tackle. Rivals.com has very similar rankings as McClendon comes in at #220 nationally and #22 at his projected position.

Coach Pittman and the Dawgs have stuck to their guns of going large along the offensive front. Not only have they gone large with McClendon, they have obtained a verbal commitment from one of the most versatile lineman in the country as McClendon has the tools to play several positions up front. This increases his opportunities of seeing early playing time.

On top of that Dawg fans will not have fret about whether McClendon qualifies; he currently boasts a 3.4 GPA and a 24 on the ACT. So they can relax and expect him between the hedges sooner than later.
