Barry Every breaks down some of the top prospects in "the SEC of high school football".

Many in South Georgia consider Region 1-AAAAAAA the SEC of high school football. Since 2003 Kingsland (Ga.) Camden County, Norman Park (Ga.) Colquitt County and Valdosta (Ga.) Lowndes have combined for eight State Championships in Georgia’s largest classification.

Last year all four teams qualified for the GHSA playoffs despite the fact that only three are guaranteed a spot because of being in a four-team region. The Blue Devils were able to reach the quarterfinals, Lowndes made the semifinals and the Packers reached the State Finals for the fourth time in five years.

This piece isn’t about the gridiron prowess each team possesses, but the star power that the SEC of high school football produces. Over the last two recruiting cycles (2018-19) these four schools have combined to produce 25 FBS/FCS signees, Colquitt leads the way with 11 signees over that two year period.

Currently Lowndes leads the way with eight players on their current roster with at least one FBS/FCS offer. They are followed by Colquitt County (8), Camden County (6) and Tift County (4). If you add the total number of FBS/FCS offers each prospect possesses the Wildcats lead the way with 75 total offers. Colquitt County currently has 57 FBS/FCS spread amongst their seven prospects with offers and Lowndes has 42.

Of the 25 current prospects with at least one FBS/FCS offer; 17 are in the class of 2020, four in the class of 2021 and four in the class of 2022. Obviously the younger classes will gain more recruiting attention once the 2019 season begins.

There are three prospects claiming more than 20 offers. Former Atlanta (Ga.) BT Washington star turned Camden Wildcat Micheal Holmes possesses 23 offers. The senior has earned verbal offers from Arkansas, Boston College, Duke, Georgia Tech, LSU, Oregon State and Texas A&M, to name a few. Also holding 23 offers is senior tight end Carter Boatwright of Colquitt County. Boatwright made a verbal commitment to Florida State recently.

The third prospect with over 20 offers is Camden County offensive lineman Micah Morris, possibly the most coveted player in all of South Georgia regardless of graduation year or classification. Morris holds at least 22 offers from the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Miami, Nebraska and South Carolina.

Speaking of commitments, Boatwright is not the lone prospect to have made his college intentions public. Lowndes defensive back Josh Brown recently gave a verbal to Troy. He chose the Trojans over Cincinnati, Colorado State, Georgia Southern and Georgia State.

As the 2019 season commences players will assuredly attract newfound recruiting attention. Several new names will gain attention from college recruiters at the FBS/FCS level.  The classes that will be most affected going forward are 2021, 2022 and even 2023.

Below is a recruiting synopsis on each program in Region 1-AAAAAAA. It includes the number of prospects produced the last two seasons, the current number of prospects holding at least one or more FBS/FCS offer and the names and graduation year of each prospect. This list does not include signees or offers at the DII, NAIA or DIII level.
