Taking a look at the top ten prospects in Southern Pigskin’s recruiting area for the class of 2016.

With National Signing Day now in the rearview mirror, the never-ending world of recruiting turns its attention to the class of 2016.

Southern Pigskin’s recruiting area, which covers all of the coast of South Georgia and extends into metro-Jacksonville, is filled with tons of talented players that have one year of high school eligibility remaining.

Here is a look at the top ten players in our coverage area for the class of 2016.

1. ATH Demetris Robertson, Savannah Christian Prep (Savannah, GA)

Though he had to sit out the majority of his junior season due to a transfer issue with the GHSA, Robertson made up for lost time by dominating in limited action. He is an elite athlete that could line up on either side of the ball at the next level. Due to his outstanding hands and ability to use his body well, we like him best as a wide receiver.

Recruitment Status: Committed to Alabama.

2. LB Shaq Quarterman, Oakleaf High School (Orange Park, FL)

At six-foot-two, 240 pounds, Quarterman is already built like a starting linebacker at the collegiate level. He possesses excellent instincts and really attacks downhill once he diagnoses a play. Given his combination of size, speed and intelligence, it is hard to find a glaring weakness to his game.

Recruitment Status: Committed to Miami.

3. OG Jordan Johnson, Edward H. White High School (Jacksonville, FL)

Though some sites have Johnson projected as an offensive tackle at the next level, his game appears to be more conducive to success on the interior. Johnson is excellent when pulling in space, and he is absolutely ferocious until the whistle is blown. He has very good strength and continues to show improvement with his technique.

Recruitment Status: Offers include Georgia Tech, Miami, Ole Miss, Ohio State and South Carolina.

4. ATH Dederick Mills, Ware County High School (Waycross, GA)

Mills is being recruited by many schools as a running back, but we feel that his best position is linebacker. He is a strong physical specimen and he has the aggressiveness and strength to be a dominating force against the run. He is also an excellent athlete with above-average instincts on defense.

Recruitment Status: Offers from Auburn, Georgia Tech, Kentucky and South Carolina.

5. RB Andrew Lee, Charlton County High School (Folkston, GA)

One of the top performers at our 2014 Explosive Southern Pigskin Camp, Lee has a build which one scout described as “that of a 22-year old”. As a runner, Lee hits the hole hard and runs with tremendous power. He has enough speed to pull away in the open field and is has improved his agility from a season ago.

Recruitment Status: Current schools in the mix include Clemson, Georgia and Florida.

6. RB Jalin Buie, Trinity Christian High School (Jacksonville, FL)

Buie is generously listed as five-foot-nine, 178 pounds, but his playing size becomes largely irrelevant once he actually gets the ball in his hands. An explosive athlete, Buie is an absolute nightmare for defenders in the open field. He is able to stop and start on a dime, and his cuts typically leave defenders grasping at air.

Recruitment Status: Committed to Auburn.

7. RB Trey Sneed, Fleming Island High School (Orange Park, FL)

Sneed may only be five-foot-eleven, but he runs with a surprising amount of power for a guy of his stature. Some of his best attributes are his vision and his patience in helping set up his blockers for success. Sneed is not a burner in the open field, but he is exceptionally good at making quick jukes and then getting vertical to pick up extra yardage.

Recruitment Status: Offers include Clemson, Duke, Georgia Tech, Louisville and North Carolina.

8. LB Michael Pinckney, Williams M. Raines High School (Jacksonville, FL)

The thing to like most about Pinckney’s game is his athleticism. Though he is potentially slightly undersized for the position, Pinckney gets to the football in a hurry due to his speed, and he is not afraid to deliver a hit once he arrives. He will need to work on some of his techniques, but his ceiling is very high.

Recruitment Status: Committed to Miami.

9. OG Andrew Boselli, Providence High School (Jacksonville, FL)

If his last name looks familiar, that is because Andrew is the son of legendary NFL offensive lineman Tony Boselli. Though he obviously has a ways to go before he becomes a player of the caliber of his father, Boselli does have an excellent frame and possesses the desire to improve. Given his genes, it is easy to say that he should develop quite nicely.

Recruitment Status: Early offers include Miami, Mississippi State and Missouri.

10. DE De’Andre Gardenhire-Washington, Camden County High School (Kingsland, GA)

Gardenhire-Washington plays slightly out of position as a defensive end in the Wildcats’ 3-4 scheme, but he has shown on numerous occasions that he has the ability to be an effective defensive end/outside linebacker in college. He is an outstanding pass rusher that really creates problems with his combination of length and athleticism.

Recruitment Status: Offer from Old Dominion.
