As a college prospect, John Cano is working towards even more milestones.
One of the most impressive prospects at the Explosive Southern Pigskin Football Camp in Pooler over the weekend was Brunswick High interior lineman John Cano. Having teamed up on his prep front five with recent Georgia-signee D'Antne Demery and class of 2019 standout Warren McClendon, Cano has also come into his own as an accomplished blocker.
At 6'3'', 274 pounds, Cano plays with an attitude and ability beyond his growing measurements. He is an all-state heavyweight wrestler, in addition to his football success, and uses the quickness and tenacity that makes him effective on the mat on the gridiron. Projecting ahead, Cano has the versatility to play center or guard. His passion is part of his appeal.
Cano was effective in blocking workouts on Saturday, showing polished footwork and technique. He moved well front-to-back and side-to-side and was able to dip low against shorter defenders. Regardless of the drill, Cano was one of the top offensive line performers on a consistent basis.
As a college prospect, the rising senior is working towards even more milestones.
"I want to win a state championship, grow a few more inches and increase my strength," Cano stated of his upcoming goals.
This fall, Cano and the Pirates will play for Sean Pender, one year after his offense ranked in the top five in the state of Georgia with 478.4 yards per game at Pierce County.
