Texas A&M wins comfortably in a top 15 matchup with Auburn.

Texas A&M made a national statement with a 41-38 win over number one Alabama. Consider Saturday’s 20-3 win against 13th-ranked Auburn the exclamation point.

The Aggies simply overpowered the Tigers, who had previously won four out of five games overall, losing only to new number one Georgia in that span. Texas A&M outgained Auburn 401 total yards to 224, allowing merely a first quarter field goal to the visitors all game. Halftime proved to be quite the boost for the Aggies as they outscored the Tigers 17-0 after the break. The play of the game came early in the fourth quarter when Jayden Peevy sacked Bo Nix and Michael Clemons returned his fumble 24 yards for a touchdown.

In a showcase of a number of the top running backs in the SEC, Isaiah Spiller ran for 112 yards and Devon Achane, who had a 68-yard rush, ran for 98 more for Texas A&M. The Aggies averaged 6.2 yards per rush, while Auburn managed just 2.5. In a contest where a lot was decided in the trenches, Texas A&M consistently controlled both sides of the line of scrimmage on Saturday.

Even before a near-shutout of the Tigers, the Aggies already boasted a top five defense nationally. The Auburn game came with more affirmation. Trying to get back into the game with a score, four of the Tigers’ last five possessions went for seven yards or less, with two of them ending in turnovers. In all, Auburn had just three drives that went for more than five total plays. It was another showcase performance from the Aggies defensively.

Texas A&M held Auburn to its lowest scoring output since the 2012 Iron Bowl.

There was another big game at Kyle Field and there was another big win by the Aggies. For the most part, Texas A&M has been great in the spotlight this season. Against Auburn, the Aggies looked like one of college football’s best teams.
