There is at least a chance the Bulldogs end up slotted number one -- twice.

College football has become a year-round sprint, a race the Georgia Bulldogs are currently winning. In Kirby Smart's second year, Georgia is 5-0 and has moved into the national top five; odds are that the Bulldogs will be undefeated heading into a late October showdown with rival Florida in Jacksonville. Georgia is now a leading name in the College Football Playoff discussion. Still fit with silver britches, the Bulldogs are red-hot and black.

Though Georgia has been dominating on Saturdays, the Bulldogs got, perhaps, their most-impactful news of the season on Friday morning. Justin Fields, the nation's top-ranked recruit per some services, committed to Georgia over Auburn, Florida State and LSU, giving the Bulldogs a five-star signal caller for the third year in a row. Many believe Fields, a Kennesaw-native, is a transcendent talent. A one-time Penn State-pledge, Fields is now the centerpiece of a remarkable 2018 class.

In addition to Fields, Georgia already has a commitment from North Carolina's Zamir White, the nation's top-ranked running back. There is growing anticipation anticipation that, with rising momentum, more big names could pick the Bulldogs in the future. The addition of Fields certainly has Georgia trending.

On the field, the Bulldogs have emerged as the early SEC East favorite and a potential threat to top-ranked Alabama league-wide. Current and future success is obviously intertwined, with Georgia moving up in both the national polls and the recruiting rankings; there is at least a chance the Bulldogs end up slotted number one -- twice.

Georgia, in more ways than one, is out in front of the competition. The Bulldogs don't appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
