Spiller had a very impressive freshman debut, one that, quite frankly, hasn’t been talked about enough.

Expectations are high for Texas A&M. The Aggies return a star quarterback in Kellen Mond, two talented tight ends in Jalen Wydermyer and Baylor Cupp and, remarkably, all of their top ten tacklers from last season defensively.

They also have one of the nation’s top running backs in Isaiah Spiller.

Spiller had a very impressive freshman debut, one that, quite frankly, hasn’t been talked about enough. He rushed for 946 yards and ten touchdowns, adding 29 receptions. The only other freshman in the SEC to meet those minimums the past 20 years is former South Carolina great Marcus Lattimore.

It didn’t take Spiller long to make an impact and do so at a position of need. He topped the 100-yard mark in his first game, rushing for 107 yards on just seven carries in Texas A&M’s season-opening win over Texas State in 2019. Two weeks later he ran for 116 yards and two touchdowns versus Lamar. Spiller would go on to score against rival Arkansas, against Ole Miss and Mississippi State, rush for 129 yard against South Carolina, run for a touchdown against top-ranked LSU and reach the endzone in the Texas Bowl against Oklahoma State.

A record-setting performance in early November against Texas-San Antonio was, for many, Spiller’s national introduction: 217 rushing yards and three touchdowns, all at over ten yards per carry. He is one of just six SEC running backs this millennium, regardless of classification, with those single game marks.

Spiller and Mond, who has scored 70 total touchdowns, give the Aggies one of the premier offensive backfields in all of college football. They are a key part of the foundation for a Texas A&M team that finished last season winning five of seven games; both losses, Georgia and LSU, came to teams ranked in the national top five. It’s there that the Aggies are hoping to go. Playmakers, from Spiller and Mond to other talented running back options, are ready to lead the way.

Texas A&M is 6-0 when Spiller has at least 12 carries. Get ready for more, both rushing attempts and wins alike.
