Devlin Hodges' most recent outing was both a showcase and a springboard.

Samford quarterback Devlin Hodges entered his senior season as one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in college football history. He is adding to his legacy week-to-week. Hodges had a banner performance in the Bulldogs' 66-28 victory over Western Carolina, throwing for a Southern Conference-record 562 yards and six touchdowns, adding a rushing score. In doing so, he became the 7th member of the 12,000-yard FCS passing club and now has 12,484 career yards. With five games left, Hodges ranks 5th on the all-time list.

Saturday was a performance to remember. Hodges absolutely went off against the Catamounts, leading Samford to a program SoCon record of 66 points, 736 yards of total offense, 37 first downs and nine touchdowns. With roughly five minutes still left in the opening quarter, Hodges had already scored five times himself. The end results were single-game league marks for passing yards and total yards to go along with a number of other school records. Individually and as a team leader, it was an effort for the ages from Hodges.

Ahead of a final stretch against VMI, Furman, Wofford, The Citadel and East Tennessee State, Hodges also is poised for one famed run at the record books. He, with 729 more passing yards, would move into the top three in FCS history in production and 1,030 more yards would slide Hodges into second place. To top Steve McNair's all-time mark, Hodges needs 2,013 more passing yards. Regardless of where he ends up, this career has been one of the greatest the game has ever seen.

Hodges' most recent outing was both a showcase and a springboard. The Samford and SoCon legend has already reserved his place in history. Even still, there is more to come.
