Wofford Terrier fans better keep a standing appointment with their Cardiologist this season. After opening the season with two one-point SoCon wins over Furman (24-23) and Mercer (28-27), the Terriers picked up their third league win of the year over #22 Western Carolina 35-28 in overtime.

Including Wofford’s three-point non-conference victory over Gardner-Webb two weeks ago, the Terriers have won 4 of their 5 games by a combined 12 points. Call them the ‘Cardiac Terriers if you will but the 5th ranked team in the country is finding a way to stay in the driver’s seat in the race for the league title.

Andre Stoddard’s second touchdown run of the day, capping a game high 157 yards on 21 carries, gave the Terriers the lead on the opening possession of overtime. Wofford’s 35-28 win was clinched with George Gbesee’s second interception of the game grasping the ball out of the arms of a Catamount receiver in the end zone. Western Carolina Quarterback Tyrie Adams ended the day with three interceptions to go along with 195 yards and two touchdowns.

The Catamounts tied the game with 3:06 left on Donovan Spencer’s 1-yard touchdown run that capped an 11 play, 75-yard drive to tie the game a 28. Wofford got down to the Catamounts 34-yard line but decided against attempting a 51-yard field goal that would have won it in regulation.

Wofford travels down I-26 next week to Charleston to take on a suddenly reeling Citadel team in a game that was circled in the preseason as the de-facto SoCon title game. Western Carolina returns home to take on ETSU looking to get back on a winning streak to stay in contention in the SoCon title race.
