Arkansas is now a national name. The Razorbacks are here to contend.
Arkansas got college football’s attention in a convincing week two win over rival Texas. The Razorbacks simply overwhelmed the nationally-ranked Longhorns, unofficially welcoming their long-time rivals to the SEC with a 19-point defeat. The energy and excitement around the program was on clear display. In primetime, tt was a showcase for Arkansas. Two weeks later, against top ten Texas A&M in the league game of the week, the undefeated Razorbacks made a statement.
The 20-10 victory over the Aggies wasn’t just a feel-good win for Sam Pittman and Arkansas or another solid performance from a team moving in the right direction; suddenly 4-0 with two signature wins, the Razorbacks have been one of college football’s best teams.
Arkansas is now a national name. The Razorbacks are here to contend.
Controlling the entire contest in a game against the first team out of the College Football Playoff a year ago, Arkansas outgained Texas A&M by more than 150 total yards. Big plays were the difference. Quarterback K.J. Jefferson found Trelon Burks for an 85-yard touchdown and A.J. Green for a 48-yard score. In a showdown with the 7th-ranked team in the conutry, the Razorbacks never trailed. Arkansas has proved ready for the bright lights this season; the Razorbacks never trailed against Texas either.
Arkansas should be at least close to the national top ten this week. It’s a ranking the Razorbacks have earned.
Fresh off a win over a second highly-ranked opponent, Arkansas will have multiple chances at more of the same. Up next for the Razorbacks: at Georgia, at Ole Miss and Auburn. Trips to LSU and Alabama also await. Pittman’s return to Athens, where he was the offensive line coach and assistant head coach for the Bulldogs from 2016-2019, will be a meaningful one. The national spotlight will follow the Razorbacks to Georgia where one of the national favorites are off to a dominant start.
Another major test awaits Arkansas; the Razorbacks have passed every one so far.
Already, Arkansas has two of the most impressive wins in college football. The Razorbacks may just now be getting started.
