Tennessee opens on a Thursday night for a second straight season, joining Week 2 opponent Pittsburgh in having nine days to prepare for next weeks showdown in the Steel City. Ball State backslid to 6-7 in 2021 after winning the MAC title and the Arizona Bowl in 2020. I do not anticipate the offensive clunkiness that we saw from the Vols in their season opener a year ago against Bowling Green. They have an established quarterback in Hendon Hooker, and even though they may not unveil much of their playbook with Pittsburgh looming, I expect nothing short of a rout and plenty of garbage time in the second half.

Prediction: Tennessee 45, Ball State 7
