I worry about the fact that there are so many questions and so few answers.

My concern and fear, which have long been there, continue to grow.

I would never pretend to know much of anything about the coronavirus, just what I read and hear. The corresponding complexities, as it pertains to what the virus has done and is doing, is so far beyond my modest comprehension that it’s difficult to even think about. It’s humbling and startling alike proccess everything, especially when the big picture is the proper perspective. Personally, as a type one diabetic, I’m scared and have been for a long time. I guess that’s where my thoughts are at this point, just more fearful and more uncertain. I feel that way for everyone, college football included.

First and foremost, I worry about the health of those involved. I worry about the the student-athletes, young adults, just for point of reference, who are amateurs not getting paid monetarily like professional players are and are yet assuming the most direct risk. I worry about the coaches and staffers and the periphery people who are all directly involved. I worry about college campuses. I also worry about the loved ones of all of the above. As the coronavirus still devastates the country, I worry about the trends and the headlines that continue to hit and hurt us all.

I worry about medical personnel. I worry about resources. I worry about testing times. I worry about not having a bubble. I worry about logistics. I worry about travel. I worry about lodging. I worry about media. I worry about fans. I worry about schedules. I worry about the process. I worry about the perception.

I worry about the who, the what, the how, the why, the where, the when and the how much.

I worry about the real costs and the opportunity costs. I worry about the schools and programs that serve the student-athletes and the memories and milestones that might be missed. I worry about the lifelong goals, for so many accomplished young people, not completely coming to fruition. I worry about the formative experiences that might be missed. I worry about the localities and businesses that benefit from the economic ripple effect that college football provides and the people who build their livelihoods and contribute to society through that infrastructure.

I worry about the fact that there are so many questions and so few answers.

In terms of what I’m optimistic for, it’s that college football, and all of us, are hoping and praying for the best, but are aware and diligent in preparing for the worst. Perspectives need to be finely-tuned and options must remain fluid. Our reasoning, as kickoff approaches, need to come with the right reasons. I’m a believer in the human spirit. So many have and are rallying against racial injustice and I’m convinced we can find our way against coronavirus as well.

I, merely one anxious man, have my own personal thoughts and fears, but don’t know what the right answers are for college football and this fall or anything else. I also wouldn’t know the exact details of how to move forward with any potential necessary changes. I’m just concerned and still trying to process it all myself.
