Matt Corral continues to have Heisman Trophy-type performances.
Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral continues to validate the Heisman Trophy hype. After an historic showing in a win at Tennessee Saturday night, he is one the leading names, and perhaps the co-frontrunner along with Alabama’s Bryce Young, in consideration for the most prominent individual award in sports.
Impressively, Corral did it all in Neyland Stadium, compiling 426 yards of total offense in pacing the Rebels to 510 yards, 29 first downs and a victory. He passed for 231 yards, rushed for 195 more, and threw two touchdown passes. Only two SEC players this millennium have now reached those milestones in a single game, Corral and former Texas A&M star Johnny Manziel the season he won the Heisman.
Halfway through the schedule, Corral currently has 1,728 passing yards, 450 rushing yards and 14 passing touchdowns and eight more rushing scores. All with just one interception. Already, he has a performance with five passing touchdowns and another showcase with four rushing touchdowns. In the win over Tennessee, Corral, the offensive catalyst for one of the top offenses in all of college football, threw it 38 times and ran it 30 more.
Corral has scored multiple times in every contest this year. Correspondingly, Ole Miss is currently averaging over 43 points and 553 yards per outing. With Corral leading the way, Lane Kiffin’s offense is again one of the nation’s best. Furthermore, the Rebels remain in the College Football Playoff picture.
As the Heisman Trophy talks come into view, Corral is directly in the spotlight.
