In an affirming win for Kerwin Bell and the Catamounts, the offense had a statement showing.
Head coach Kerwin Bell and Western Carolina got a key victory on Saturday as the Catamounts had an impressive performance at The Citadel, winning 45-31.
Western Carolina compiled nearly 600 yards of total offense in a showcase where the Catamounts scored 24 points in the second quarter alone. Bell, a former SEC Player of the Year and All-American quarterback at Florida, was recently an analyst for the Gators and the offensive coordinator at South Florida, previously winning a Division II national championship with Valdosta State. Consistent points and production have followed Bell throughout his career.0
Quarterback Carlos Davis was the catalyst for Western Carolina’s win, completing 31-of-40 passes for 401 yards and three touchdowns. He was part of a balanced effort for the Catamounts as running back T.J. Jones also rushed for 132 yards and two scores on just 15 carries and added a 40-yard touchdown catch. Receiver Raphael Williams had 12 catches for 147 yards and a touchdown. Western Carolina’s playmakers were setting the pace as the team took meaningful strides forward.0
The triumph is a second-consecutive victory over The Citadel for the Catamounts, who topped the Bulldogs 21-14 in the Southern Conference’s spring schedule. The win is a feel-good finish for Western Carolina, which had previously lost close games against Eastern Kentucky and Samford this season. There is now momentum in place as Western Carolina readies for the stretch run against Wofford, Furman, East Tennessee State and VMI.
In an affirming win for Bell and the Catamounts, the offense had a statement showing. More success may soon be on the way.
