The top performers in the Southern Conference for week seven.

Clay Harris, The Citadel: 18 carries, 113 yards, 2 TD
It takes a certain type of person to play B-back. Half the time your job will be to lead block for the A-backs, smashing into linebackers in the hole. Another large portion of your time will be spent acting like you have the ball and smashing into an oncoming defensive end, as your quarterback scurries around the edge. The smallest portion of your time is where you really get to shine. When the quarterback sees the end setting the edge and hands you the ball. There are no cuts. No cute jukes. No spin moves. You simply stick your foot in the ground and run as hard as you can into your assigned hole. Your only goal: pick up as many yards as possible, punishing linebackers and defensive lineman alike. Need an example? Watch Harrisxe2x80x99 game-winning touchdown run against Wofford on Saturday. Violent, defender-mauling beauty. He was a force on Saturday, helping The Citadel earn their first win of the spring. Combining for 203 rushing yards with fellow B-back Nathan Storch, Harris was able to find paydirt twice, including the aforementioned game-winner. (Oh, and he did all without gloves. Thatxe2x80x99s the good stuff.)
Quay Holmes, ETSU: 29 carries, 135 yards, 2 TD
Welcome back, Quay Holmes. He has become a staple of our weekly honors and for good reason. Holmes carried the offense for the Bucs in their 24-20 win over No. 8 VMI. Averaging 4.7 yards per carry, Holmes started the scoring for ETSU in the first quarter, and finished it in the 4th with his game-winning 4-yard scamper. Itxe2x80x99s been a phenomenal spring for Holmes. In just 5 games, the redshirt-junior is currently sitting at 924 total yards, good for 184.8 yards per game. Just unreal. ETSU earned its first STATS Top 25 ranking for the first time since 2018 and Quay Holmesxe2x80x99 play is a big reason why.
Ty James, Mercer: 8 receptions, 179 yards, 1 TD
All kinds of records were falling for Mercer as the Bears took down Furman 26-14. The connection of Carter Peevy to Ty James was particularly deadly. Peevy set a new school record with 406 yards through the air, but it was James, his top target, that stole the show on Saturday. To put it simply, James was doing whatever he wanted to the Furman defense. His 179 receiving yards set a new school record, and his 4th quarter touchdown reception would prove to be the game-winner. Itxe2x80x99s been an up-and-down spring for the Bears, but Saturdayxe2x80x99s offensive performance should give the Mercer faithful something to be hopeful about heading into their final two games of the season.
