SouthernPigskin.com Contributor Luke Stampini shares an update on Northwestern High School’s (Miami) Teddy Bridgewater, an elite class of 2011 prospect.

Since Teddy Bridgewater led his Northwestern Bulls to the 2008 6A state title game as a sophomore, fans have wondered at what school this talented athlete would play his college ball. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound gunslinger was coy on naming any particular school, but did state what conference he would like to play in.

“I don’t have a list (of schools) or anything like that,” said Bridgewater. “I can just name the conference that I like the most, the SEC, basically the schools in the SEC.”

That is an interesting statement on his recruitment, considering the hometown Miami Hurricanes are not members of the SEC. Bridgewater was vague when asked about the Hurricanes and the chances they have for his services.

“I think they are going to have a great program, going to have a big turnaround,” said Bridgewater. “I just look forward to seeing what they do.”

The next question surrounding Bridgewater is what position he will play at the next level. In the past, he has admitted an affection for wide receiver, but still would not mind playing quarterback. During this interview, Bridgewater stated he wanted to play quarterback at the next level with no mention of wide receiver. When asked what he needs to improve on the most to make the transition from high school to college at the quarterback position he answered with the following.

“I don’t really know, but if I had to choose anything I would say my drop back, I would improve that. Earlier my sophomore season I was under center a lot though.”

This past season for Bridgewater and the Bulls did not end the way they had hoped, with a loss to district rival Miami Central in the playoffs. Bridgewater was also dissatisfied with the number of times he gave the ball over to the other team.

“Well the season was a little disappointing because we lost in the second round, but I think we played well throughout the season, coming together as a team,” said Bridgewater. “I was happy with the numbers I put up, but I was disappointed with the amount of interceptions I threw.”

The bitter taste of a bowing out of the playoffs early, and a high number of interceptions has him working hard to improve this offseason.

“Right now, I’m just getting stronger, gaining weight, and watching a lot of film. I’m trying to improve my arm strength too.”

Bridgewater plans to attend several camps and combines this offseason as well.
