The top individual performers in the SoCon for week three.
nBy Christian Goeckel
nReece Udinski, VMI: 30-41, 239 yards, 1 TD
nFollowing their upset of Furman last week, VMI continued their hot start with a 30-7 win over Western Carolina. Reece Udinski was the steady hand guiding the offense, completing 73% of his passes against a stingy Catamount defense. The yards may not pop off the page, but Udinski was able to pick up key first downs, including a big 4th down conversion with his legs. The Keydets are off to a great start, and have made a real case to be a top 25 team.
nHamp Sisson, Furman: 11-27, 308 total yards, 4 total TD, 2 INT
nGunslinger and flexbone donxe2x80x99t typically mix, but Furman has found a unique style with Hamp Sisson under center. Sisson barely completed 40% of his passes, threw two interceptions, and found his team down three scores at the end of the first quarter. But gunslingers arenxe2x80x99t gunslingers because they become shy after throwing a couple of picks. They are who they are because they believe they can make the throws. That mentality finally started to pay off for the Paladins in the fourth quarter. Sisson threw two touchdowns in the final seven minutes, including a 73 yard score to Ryan Miller to take the game to overtime. Devin Wynn is the unquestioned heartbeat of this offense, Sisson could be the wildcard that makes it the best in the SoCon.
nDevonnsha Maxwell, Chattanooga: 10 tackles, 2.0 sacks
nFor the second week in a row Devonnsha Maxwell makes this list following a dominant defensive performance. The Mocs had to hold off a late rally by The Citadel to improve to 2-0 in league play with a 2-point conversion in overtime. Maxwell was a monster on the line all day, harassing Bulldog quarterback Jaylan Adams. Itxe2x80x99s been a heck of a start for Maxwell. In two weeks, the former All-American has accumulated a statline that includes: 16 tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss, 4.0 sacks, and a forced fumble.
