Reviewing all of the weekend’s action in the SoCon.

nChattanooga (5-1, 3-0) 33, VMI 27 (1-6, 0-3)

nVMI gave the sixth-ranked Mocs all they could handle as the upset-minded Keydets hung tough at home before falling 33-27.xc2xa0 VMI led 21-20 at the half, but could not hold off the Mocs in the end to pull the upset.xc2xa0 The Mocs were the highest-ranked team to visit VMI since 2011 and needed to convert a fourth down play late in the fourth quarter to preserve the win.xc2xa0 Chattanooga dominated the game statistically, outgaining the Keydets 490 to 262 in total yards, with 261 of those yards for the Mocs coming on the ground.xc2xa0 Keydet quarterback Al Cobb was 15 of 25 for 190 yards and three scores, while Jacob Huesman was 21 of 33 for 219 yards and a single touchdown for the Mocs.

nWestern Carolina (4-2, 2-1) 24, Wofford (3-4, 1-2) 17

nWestern Carolina broke an eight-game losing streak dating back to 1981 in Spartanburg, capitalizing on five Wofford turnovers.xc2xa0 The Catamounts turned three of Woffordxe2x80x99s four first half turnovers into points, taking a 17-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.xc2xa0 Wofford used a pair of 12-play drives bookending an onside kick to pull within 24-17 midway through the fourth quarter after Western had taken a 24-3 lead heading into the final frame.xc2xa0 Wofford had one last shot at tying the game inside the final five minutes, but that ended with the Terriers’ fifth turnover of the game.xc2xa0 Western Carolina quarterback Troy Mitchell was 21 of 27 passing for 203 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Catamounts.

nThe Citadel (4-2, 3-0) 44, Samford (3-3, 1-2) 25

nThe Citadel used two touchdowns in the final 3:36 of the first half to break open a 21-14 game and turn it into a three touchdown lead at halftime.xc2xa0 The Citadelxe2x80x99s defense led to a lead-widening score in the third quarter putting the game out of reach.xc2xa0 Dominique Allen rushed for a career-high 166 yards for The Citadel.xc2xa0 Samford junior wide receiver Karel Hamilton turned in a career performance, notching a personal-best 15 receptions for a career-high 220 yards against the Bulldogs. Hamilton also hauled in a reception for 83 yards and a touchdown early in the fourth quarter. With the win, the Bulldogs remain tied for first place in the SoCon with Chattanooga, and also are 3-0 in the SoCon for the first time since 1992.xc2xa0

nMercer (3-3, 0-2) 52, ETSU (0-6) 0

nIn a game that will count in the SoCon standings next year, Mercer rolled over ETSU in Macon scoring on its final five possessions of the first half to cruise to a 52-0 victory.xc2xa0 Mercer snapped its three-game losing streak by rolling up 563 total yards of offense while limiting the Bucs to just 228 yards of total offense.xc2xa0 Bears junior quarterback John Russ threw for 269 yards and accounted for four touchdowns on the afternoon to lead Mercer.xc2xa0 For the fourth time this season, red-shirt freshman linebacker Dylan Weigel paced the defense in tackles with 11 (one for loss), while fellow freshman Cole West added 10 tackles. Weigel was also credited the fumble recovery on the opening drive of the game, marking his second of the season.xc2xa0 Mercer returns to SoCon action this week hosting VMI in a matchup between two teams looking for their first SoCon win of the season.
