Here are the top three performers from Georgia Southerns 2016 spring game.

There were plenty of reasons to check out Georgia Southerns spring game, earlier this afternoon. It offered the first opportunity to watch Tyson Summers and his new staff lead this Georgia Southern team. It gave us a glimpse of the new-look Paulson Stadium in action. And above all, its the last chance to see the Eagles play for what seems like an eternity.

Here are the top three performers from Georgia Southerns 2016 spring game:

3. Chaz Thornton
The Eagles might be even deeper at running back than we initially thought, if thats even possible. Thornton, who will be a redshirt sophomore next season, showed off the speed and acceleration that allowed him to rush for more yards than Herschel Walker did in high school. He provided the White team with two scores, a punch-in from three yards out to start the day, and a 45-yard touchdown with just a couple of minutes left.

2. Favian Upshaw
Tyson Summers has made it clear that he plans to continue to use a dual-quarterback system. Still, dont be surprised if Upshaw ends up taking the starting snaps, with Ellison providing relief off the bench. The 2015 GoDaddy Bowl MVP carried that momentum from the postseason into the spring game, culminating in an 18-yard touchdown pass (PASS!) to BJ Johnson.

1. Ironhead Gallon
Perhaps the most important thing for the Eagles to figure out, this offseason was who would be the new de facto leader of the defense, what with Matt Dobsons departure. Ironhead Gallon looks like he could be that guy. The play of the game was his 31-yard interception return for a touchdown. However, far more important than that was his seemingly unceasing display of leadership.
