The FBS all-time sack record stands at 44 and, right now, Arkansas State’s JaVon Rolland-Jones is just three away from breaking that record.
The Arkansas State Red Wolves are in the midst of a stellar season as they currently sit atop the Sun Belt Conference and are steamrolling to their 4th consecutive bowl appearance under Head Coach Blake Anderson.
However, there is also another milestone thats approaching and within reach for the Red Wolves. The FBS all-time sack record stands at 44 and, right now, edge rusher JaVon Rolland-Jones is just three away from breaking that record.
The 62 244 lb. redshirt senior from Mesquite, Texas has been a stud since stepping foot on campus. Rolland-Jones was an immediate impact player as a redshirt freshman earning both All-Conference and Freshman All-American honors. He already holds the Sun Belt Conference and school record for sacks, and is only 14.5 TFLs away from being the national leader in that category as well. That level of production has Rolland-Jones on many postseason All-Conference, All-American and award watch lists.
When youre that productive, your name starts to travel. Speak with a few coaches around the Sun Belt Conference about Rolland-Jones and the first word that comes up on a consistent basis is x98relentless.
Its known that hustle will get you anywhere you want to go in life and on a football field.
When youre viewed as an x98undersized defensive end, you have to be able to overcome that with both heart and hustle. Rolland-Jones has both in abundance. When you watch the film, you see that he has a variety of ways to get to the quarterback. Whether its a x98dip under, x98push-pull-rip, x98motorbike lean or an old-fashioned bull rush, Rolland-Jones wont be denied.
Thats what makes this record special for not only him, but for this Arkansas State program. Guys from Arkansas State arent supposed to break national records. Guys from the Sun Belt Conference arent supposed to be superior football players and athletes juxtaposed to their Power 5 counterparts. Guys at his size that play defensive end arent supposed to have sustained success.
While many continue to focus on what isnt x98supposed to happen, JaVon Rolland-Jones and that Arkansas State football program just keep going out there and consistently making it happen.
