Texas State rallied in the fourth quarter to pick up a key Sun Belt victory.
Troy at South Alabama:
South Alabama jumped out to an early 10-point lead in the first quarter and never turned back. The Jaguars maintained a decent-sized lead throughout the duration of the game. South Alabama dual-threat quarterback Brandon Bridge had an uncharacteristic day, rushing for -12 yards and only throwing for 106. Running back Kendall Houston had a big day for the Jaguars, rushing for 178 yards and a touchdown. Troy had very few offensive playmakers on Saturday. The leading passer, Dontreal Pruitt, threw for only 83 yards, and leading rusher, Jordan Chunn, ran for a mere 53 yards. It is no surprise that South Alabama handled a struggling Troy football team on Saturday.
Score: 27-13 South Alabama
Georgia Southern at Georgia State:
We can all safely say after Saturdays matchup that Georgia Southern rules the Peach State in the Sun Belt. Georgia Southerns option offense put up 69 points on a struggling Georgia State defense. Eagles star running back Matt Breida rushed for 201 yards and four touchdowns, and Kevin Ellison rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown, while throwing for 47 yards. This Georgia Southern offense has been stellar, and they chalked up 613 rushing yards on Saturday. Personally, I dont see the Eagles losing a conference game all year. For Georgia State, quarterback Nick Arbuckle had another very impressive performance. However, he needs a defense if he wants to be on a successful team in the years to come. Arbuckle threw for 408 yards and four touchdowns in the loss. Georgia Southern is on good pace to win the Sun Belt.
Score: 69-31 Georgia Southern
Texas State at Louisiana-Monroe:
ULM jumped out to a 13-point lead going into halftime, but Texas State quarterback Tyler Jones led his team to a second half comeback to win the game. Jones threw for 141 yards and a touchdown in the come-from-behind victory. ULM quarterback Pete Thomas, meanwhile, threw for 236 yards, but failed to score. Jones hit receiver Terrence Franks for a touchdown with 6:50 left to start a fourth quarter comeback. That touchdown was followed up by a 21-yard touchdown run from running back Robert Lowe with 3:29 left. The Bobcats went up by four and the defense held ULM for the remaining three minutes to win the game.
Score: 22-18 Texas State
