After struggling to start the season, Appalachian State has been playing very good football as of late.
UL Monroe at Texas A&M:
This was an impressive performance by ULM. Texas A&M quarterback Kyle Allen replaced suspended quarterback Kenny Hill on Saturday, and struggled filling Hills shoes. Allen only threw for 106 yards and one touchdown. Freshman Myles Garrett broke Jadeveon Clowneys freshman season sack record on Saturday for the Aggies. ULM quarterback Pete Thomas had an impressive performance against this SEC defense, throwing for 246 yards and rushing for another 44. This game served as a statement for ULM and the entire Sun Belt Conference. A mediocre Sun Belt team put up a good fight against a talented SEC team.
Score: 21-16 Texas A&M
Georgia State at Appalachian State:
This game truly didnt go as expected. Appalachian State had the true home field advantage due to the snow and cold weather that is rather obscure for a Georgia State team based in Atlanta. The Mountaineers jumped out to a 27-point halftime lead and never turned back. Appalachian State running back Marcus Cox rushed for 250 yards and three touchdowns. The Mountaineers defense, with a little help from the weather, held star Georgia State quarterback Nick Arbuckle to 44 yards passing and no touchdowns. Appalachian State truly made a statement here that it shouldnt be considered one of the bottom-tier teams in the conference.
Score: 44-0 Appalachian State
Texas State at New Mexico State:
New Mexico State has really struggled to find a win lately. The Aggies are on a seven-game losing streak, and have been less than impressive. New Mexico State quarterback Tyler Rogers put together an impressive performance, throwing for 404 yards and three touchdowns in the loss. Texas State’s Tyler Jones led his team in passing and in rushing, throwing for 143 yards and a touchdown, and rushing for 82 yards. New Mexico State really needs a quick turn-around if it wants to win another game this year.
Score: 37-29 Texas State
Arkansas Sate at Idaho:
Arkansas State jumped out to an early 14-point lead in this matchup. Arkansas State running back Michael Gordon had a very successful day, rushing for 105 yards and five touchdowns. Red Wolves quarterback Fredi Knighten had an impressive performance as well, throwing for 244 yards. There was a point when Idaho led with 2:58 left in the third quarter, but the Vandals couldnt hold the lead. Arkansas State then scored 21 unanswered points to take control in the fourth quarter.
Score: 44-28 Arkansas State
South Alabama at Louisiana:
This matchup was a low-scoring defensive battle. South Alabama quarterback Brandon Bridge led in passing, throwing for 177 yards and a touchdown. Louisianas success came from running back Elijah McGuire, who rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown in the win. This was a very important win for the Ragin Cajuns, who are now 4-0 in the Sun Belt and right on Georgia Southerns tail. Louisiana has four remaining conference games, and all of them are all very winnable. The road looks bright for Louisiana.
Score: 19-9 Louisiana
