Synjyn Days has been a quarterback, A-back and B-back for Georgia Tech. He has been a starter and a reserve. Entering the home stretch of his senior year, Days is now a standout performer for a 7-2 team ranked just outside the national top 25. Days is fresh off back-to-back 100-yard games, the first standing as his first, and is again playing where, and doing what, his team needs.
Stepping in for the injured Zach Laskey, Days has rushed for 257 yards on 46 carries in wins over Pittsburgh and Virginia. His contributions have been a major boost. Days reached the endzone on both a four-yard run and a 17-yard reception on Saturday against the Cavaliers, scoring the final two touchdowns of the game for the Yellow Jackets. The transition back to the forefront for Days, who has now played in 42 total games, has been a seamless one.
x9cHe did some good things. He made some plays,” head coach Paul Johnson explained after the 35-10 victory over the Cavaliers. “He made a heck of a catch on that touchdown pass; it was a low throw and he made the catch. Hes a big, strong guy.x9d
Days brings a unique perspective to the field in that he has seen it from a variety of different angles. Couple that with his five years on campus and Days has a powerful veteran presence in the huddle. Like quarterback Justin Thomas, Days is aware of all that needs to fall into place for a play to be productive. The metro Atlanta-native, in addition to his career-high 147 yards rushing, saw that rhythm over the weekend.
x9cWe were just really doing what Coach Johnson tells us to do and covering our assignments. There wasnt anything magical that happened out there,” he stated. “Our offensive line did a great job blocking. The A-Backs did a great job blocking the perimeter. Justin made the right reads and we were successful with it.x9d
Georgia Tech has a chance at ten regular season wins and is in contention in the ACC Coastal Division. At this point, Days is carrying the load between the tackles for an offense that leads the league with 473.8 yards per game. He is setting an example while helping to set the tone. Thomas and the Yellow Jackets are now turning to Days early and often.
Days has played every single position in the Georgia Tech offensive backfield. Simpy put, his current role is a leading one.
