Clemson remains in contention for an elite bowl after a convincing win over North Carolina.
Every week, in this column, I will be predicting the bowl location and opponent for each program in the SEC, ACC and Sun Belt Conference. As September comes to a close and we roll into October, the race for bowl position and playoff spots has heated up in a hurry. Here are my latest projections for the 2014 college football postseason:
THE ELITE BOWLS:
Rose Bowl (College Football Playoff Semifinal): 2 Alabama Vs. 3 Oregon,
Sugar Bowl (College Football Playoff Semifinal): 1 Oklahoma Vs. 4 Florida State
Orange Bowl: Notre Dame Vs. Clemson
Fiesta Bowl: UCLA Vs. Michigan State
Peach Bowl: Auburn Vs. East Carolina
Cotton Bowl: Texas A&M Vs. Baylor
THE REMAINING SEC BOWLS:
The biggest impact to this weeks SEC bowl projections was Missouri rolling into South Carolina and giving the Gamecocks their second loss of the season. However, Georgia also fell in my projections, as they looked rocky in a close win over Tennessee.
Capital One Bowl: Mississippi State Vs. Ohio State
Outback Bowl: Georgia Vs. Wisconsin
Belk Bowl: South Carolina Vs. N.C. State
Taxslayer Bowl: Missouri Vs. Iowa
Texas Bowl: LSU Vs. TCU
Music City Bowl: Florida Vs. Virginia Tech
Liberty Bowl: Ole Miss Vs. West Virginia
THE ACC BOWL PICTURE:
The conference suffered two tough blows this past Saturday, as Pittsburgh lost to lowly Akron at home and Boston College lost to Colorado State in its own stadium. However, FSU, Miami, and Clemson all logged nice conference victories and solidified their bowl positions.
Russell Athletic Bowl: Louisville Vs. Oklahoma State
Belk Bowl: N.C. State Vs. South Carolina
Music City Bowl: Virginia Tech Vs. Florida
Hyundai Sun Bowl: Georgia Tech Vs. Arizona
New Era Pinstripe Bowl: North Carolina Vs. Maryland
Military Bowl: Virginia Vs. Memphis
Duck Commander Independence Bowl: Miami Vs. Oregon State
Detroit Bowl: Duke Vs. Indiana
THE SUN BELT BOWL PICTURE
While conference favorites Arkansas State and La. Lafayette were on a bye week, La. Monroe, Texas State, and South Alabama all grabbed needed wins to keep their bowl and conference title hopes alive.
New Orleans Bowl: Arkansas State Vs. Colorado State
Camellia Bowl: La. Monroe Vs. Akron
GoDaddy Bowl: La. Lafayette Vs. Bowling Green
Expect plenty of drama around playoff and bowl selection time in this first year under a new system. Should be fun to see unfold. Check back each week to see where teams rise in fall in the bowl pecking order.
