With two weeks before my birthday, which you may also refer to as Groundhog Day, here is what I know. Oh yea, February 2nd is also National Signing Day.
Arkansas doesn’t care how much attention is being paid to oversigning. The Hogs have 28 commitments. I am sure some will count back and some will count forward if necessary, but the Hogs have a nice little class. Scout ranks Arkansas current recruiting class ninth or good enough for fourth in the SEC West! Rivals does not think as highly of the Arkansas class because they rank it number 20. The Hogs are hoping for a few other commitments.
Auburn fans are a little peeved about former Alabama commit and current Auburn commit LB Brent Calloway being moved from a 5-star to a 4-star prospect. Rivals had a strong ‘Bama influence early on, but has since been sold by Shannon Terry and does not have a strong tie anymore to Alabama. Regardless, Tiger fans are not having any of it and many promised to cancel their Rivals subscription yesterday.
Alabama is battling Texas for the top class in the country. The Crimson Tide have two 5-star players from Orlando, FL, Hasean Clinton-Dix and Demetrius Hart, committed to Saban and company. Alabama only has 21 commitments in their class and three are already enrolled in class.
LSU has commitments from the most 5-star players of any team in the country in OL La’El Collins, WR Jarvis Landry, and DT Anthony Johnson. Just another reason the SEC continues to be the best conference in the country.
Ole Miss has the 17th ranked class in the country right now with 25 commitments currently on board. The problem is Ole Miss is trying to catch up, but getting a class as low as 17 (a hundred teams would love to be #17) makes it hard to make up ground in the ultra-competitive SEC.
Mississippi State is 39th in the country. This is worrisome State fans. Mullen may have made a mistake by staying around. He is going to struggle to beat the big boys if he brings in classes ranked this low. I know rankings can be wrong, but beating Nick Saban is tough when you are ranked 37 spots lower and you typically cannot outcoach Saban either.
