In a season filled with the effectiveness of a roller coaster, Boston College has just one more game left in their 2010 campaign. That would be the recruiting end game.
Battles were fought between the Eagles and their enemies each and every Saturday. At the same time, the endless war of recruiting was being waged each day through out the season. For Boston College fans, past seasons in recruiting went by without many important national stories to write home about. This recruiting class has all but erased the preconceived notions that Boston College cannot recruit notable players. The Eagles have always been keen on making experts look like amateurs during the season, but with their latest verbal commitment, a new batch of words will soon be ready-made for pundits to swallow.
Albert Louis-Jean, the athlete out of Brockton, MA has given his verbal commitment to Coach Frank Spaziani and the Boston College Eagles. As is true with many prospects in the world of recruiting, Louis-Jean’s decision to pledge to the Eagles was never a given.
It was November 26, 2010 and it seemed as if Albert Louis-Jean was only a few months away from signing on the dotted line and officially becoming a Miami Hurricane.
The stigma of “The U” had stayed with Louis-Jean through out his childhood and once Miami had offered a scholarship to the 6’1” athlete out of Massachusetts, formalities were all that were left in his final decision.
On that Friday, the day before the Hurricanes were about to play the South Florida Bulls, Albert Louis-Jean was a Hurricane.
Those twenty-four hours altered the thought process of the best player in Massachusetts.
After a humiliating 23-20 defeat to South Florida in overtime, Randy Shannon’s ties with the University of Miami were severed and the coach Louis-Jean had longed to play for was no longer present in his recruitment. It took little time before Louis-Jean reopened his options and began publicly into schools like Penn State and Boston College. Exactly a month after his recruiting process had seen its revival, Albert Louis-Jean committed to Boston College.
Albert Louis-Jean has the physicality of a linebacker perfectly mixed with the quickness of a cornerback. With a build similar to that of Darrelle Revis’ as he was graduating from high school, Louis-Jean has the ability to progress just as Revis did while he was at Pittsburgh. Louis-Jean can jam a receiver one moment and use his lateral quickness to affect the receiver in coverage. Massachusetts has not seen a player with as much diversity and versatility as Albert Louis-Jean this entire decade.
Besides their addition to talent on the field, what does the Louis-Jean commitment and enrollment mean to Boston College? Albert Louis-Jean was the best player left on their board and with this commitment they will most likely end the Class of 2011 with four players in the Rivals.com 250. With that momentum, it will become known that Boston College is stable and bustling with youthful energy.
The class of 2011 may end up ranked in the top when all is said and done, but the containment of the two best players in Massachusetts (Brian Miller, TE and Albert Louis-Jean ATH) will have a greater impact in recruiting classes to come.
The commitment of Albert Louis-Jean has brought greater light to an already radiant recruiting class.
