A recent series of events on the recruiting trail bode well for Clemson in the race for Robert Nkemdiche.

It doesn’t take a football scouting expert to tell you that Robert Nkemdiche is not your typical high school recruit.

Arguably the top high school prospect since the turn of the century, Nkemdiche is a 6-4, 270-pound athletic freak. Although he projects as a defensive end at the collegiate level, he has the skill set to play defensive tackle, linebacker and even running back, if he so desired. He is the perfect blend of raw athleticism and sheer physical strength, which explains why he is ranked as the nation’s top prospect in the 2013 class by every major scouting service.

As the nation’s top overall prospect, Nkemdiche has received scholarship offers from almost every school imaginable, and is constantly bombarded with recruiting letters and phone calls from hopeful coaching staffs around the country.

With such a tremendous amount of recruiting attention being thrust onto his young shoulders, Nkemdiche frequently attempts to seclude himself from members of the media, which often makes it difficult to get a read on which schools he might be favoring at any particular point in time.

Throughout his recruitment, however, there have been a handful of schools that have seemingly remained high on Nkemdiche’s list whenever the talented prospect has talked to the media. Alabama, in particular, has long been thought to be the most likely destination for Nkemdiche when he does finally get around to announcing his college of choice.

In recent months, though, other schools have been able to make a profound impact on Nkemdiche, firmly inserting themselves as viable destinations. Ole Miss has become a hot school of topic, as Nkemdiche’s older brother, Denzel, is currently on Hugh Freeze’s roster. His home-state school, Georgia, appears to have made significant progress thanks to the efforts of head coach Mark Richt and defensive coordinator Todd Grantham.

A couple of recent events now lead us to believe that yet another school might be making a strong push for Nkemdiche’s services.

Four-star RB Wayne Gallman and three-star CB David Kamara, both of whom are high school teammates of Nkemdiche at Grayson High School in Georgia, recently committed to Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers.

The Tigers already found themselves on Nkemdiche’s short list of potential schools, but now may have increased their chances with the country’s top prospects by landing verbal commitments from a pair of his high school teammates.

Nkemdiche, Gallman and Kamara were all three in Clemson yesterday afternoon for the Dabo Swinney Football Camp. Gallman has been committed to the Tigers for over two months, but Kamara gave his verbal commitment to Coach Swinney yesterday afternoon, leaving Nkemdiche as the only remaining Grayson prospect in attendance to have not committed to the Tigers.

Gallman and Kamara have made no secret of the fact that they are putting a bug in Nkemdiche’s ear about joining them at Clemson. Grayson High School won a Georgia State Championship last season, and they would love nothing more than to continue their winning ways in South Carolina.

While it is difficult to gauge how much Gallman and Kamara’s commitments to Clemson will affect Nkemdiche due to his lack of interaction with the media, it is fair to say that it certainly can’t hurt the Tiger’s chances.

The Crimson Tide may or may not still be the prohibitive favorite, but this will be an interesting development for fans to keep an eye on when following his recruitment.
