After missing a month of action due to a shoulder injury, Duke quarterback Anthony Boone responded with a strong outing in his return.
Offensive Player of the Week: Jerome Smith and Prince-Tyson Gulley RB/ Syracuse
Smith and Gulley combined for a monstrous outing and a 24-10 victory over N.C. State, the Oranges first as members of the ACC. Smith finished with 140 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries while Gulley gained 132 yards and scored a touchdown on nine carries.
Defensive Player of the Week: Dadi Nicolas DE/ Virginia Tech
The Hokies sacked Pittsburgh quarterback Tom Savage eight times during their 19-9 victory. Leading the way with the pressure was Nicolas who exploded with three sacks and relentless pressure throughout the game.
Special Teams Player of the Week: Cody Journell K/ Virginia Tech
Journell hit four of five field goals and was the major reason the Hokies were able to defeat Pittsburgh. Virginia Tech only managed one touchdown, and without Journells 12 points off of field goals, the outcome may have been different.
Coach of the Week: Randy Edsall/ Maryland
A week after losing 63-0 to Florida State and losing their starting quarterback in the process, the Terrapins were prepared and came out with a willingness to fight against Virginia. Edsalls team showed the ability to refocus and not allow one loss to snowball into continued losses.
X-Factor of the Week: Anthony Boone QB/ Duke
Boone returned from injury and showed great command of the offense in his first start back. He completed 31 of 38 passes for 295 yards and three touchdowns without throwing an interception. Dukes entire team should receive a boost from his return
