Clemson crushes Oklahoma 40-6 in the Russell Athletic Bowl.
1. What an incredible performance, top-to-bottom, from Clemson. The Tigers played with great energy and intensity from the start, jumping out to a 27-0 lead midway through the second quarter before topping Oklahoma 40-6. Head coach Dabo Swinney and staff obviously had Clemson primed and ready to face a very talented team. Congratulations to the Tigers on the most impressive bowl performance to date.
2. Clemson Quarterback Cole Stoudt ended his career with a near-perfect showing: 26-of-36 passing, 319 yards and four total touchdowns. From injuries to inconsistency, it’s been a trying senior season for Stoudt. He deserves a ton of credit for being ready to play as he did in the Russell Athletic Bowl and for leading the Tigers to such a convincing victory. Stoudt was on the same page as receivers Artavis Scott and Mike Williams all game long. Monday night was a special night for Stoudt.
3. Brent Venables’ Clemson defense attacked his former team relentlessly. The Tigers limited Sooner quarterback Trevor Knight to just 17-of-37 passing, 2.8 yards per attempt, and forced three interceptions. Oklahoma had only 275 total yards, some of which came late in the game.
4. Dating back three years, Clemson has now defeated LSU, Ohio State and Oklahoma in consecutive bowl games. That is an impressive feat Swinney and the Tigers should be very proud of. Clemson has proved a point, on a national scale, in recent postseasons.
5. College football, consider yourself on notice; the Tigers are young, talented and have considerable momentum heading into the 2015 season.
