The Miami Hurricanes reinstated Mark Walton, the school announced Monday after the State Attorney’s Office dropped all charges against the sophomore running back.
Walton was arrested in April for suspicion of driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license. According to police reports, Walton had bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech and smelled of alcohol when police stopped him.
“Following today’s decision by the State Attorney’s Office to drop all charges against Mark Walton, and after addressing the matter with Mark, he has been reinstated to the football program,” the Miami statement read.
As a true freshman, Walton saw action in all 13 games and led the team with 10 total touchdowns and finished second behind Joseph Yearby in rushing with 461 yards. He made his debut in the season-opener against Bethune-Cookman and put together a three-touchdown performance against Florida Atlantic University, becoming the third Hurricane freshman in the last 20 years to record a three-touchdown game.
Miami begins the Mark Richt era on Labor Day weekend against Florida A&M.
