Clemson football players Deon Cain, Ammon Lakip and Jay Jay McCullough have been suspended for failing drug tests and sent home from the site of the College Football Playoff Orange Bowl semifinal.

Clemson football players Deon Cain, Ammon Lakip and Jay Jay McCullough have been suspended for failing drug tests and sent home from the site of the College Football Playoff Orange Bowl semifinal, a person with knowledge of the matter confirmed to USA TODAY Sports on Tuesday night.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the private nature of the matter.

Cain is a freshman wide receiver who is tied for third on the team in receptions. Lakip, a senior kicker, had a three-game suspension earlier this season after a spring arrest for cocaine possession and DUI. McCullough, a junior tight end, has no receptions this season for the undefeated and top-ranked Tigers.
