For four years now, Nick Sciba has almost always been good.
Nick Sciba is clearly one of the best players in the country. Wake Forest’s junior kicker is the college football standard, both on the field and in the history books. He has the production, for the undefeated Demon Deacons, to prove it.
Already one of the best at his position the game has ever seen, Sciba continues to add to legacy while adding to Wake Forest leads. Sciba is a perfect 12-of-12 on field goal attempts this season and, going back to early 2020, has now made a remarkable 24 field goals in a row. He is 69-of-76 on field goal tries for his career and has made all 152 of his extra point attempts. Sciba currently has the highest field goal percentage in NCAA history with a stunning success rate of 90.8%.
Sciba isn’t just an All-American, he is an all-timer.
Recent games have come with records for Sciba. In a win over Florida State, Sciba became the nation’s active leader in consecutive field goals made, a streak he is still on. Sciba, in a victory at Virginia, became the NCAA’s most accurate kicker ever, a distinction he maintains. He also passed Sam Swank for the most points scored in Wake Forest history. With yet another key conversion, Sciba completed a dramatic comeback against Louisville with a late go-ahead kick. He, winning at Syracuse, moved into top 12 in the ACC in career scoring.
Going back to the second week of the season, Sciba has made multiple field goals in every game for Wake Forest, all wins. He scored a combined 21 points in outings against Louisville and Syracuse, contests the Demon Deacons won by a total of one score. Sciba is averaging ten points per game, tied for first in the ACC, for an undefeated, top 15 side. His contributions are a leading part of Wake Forest’s success.
For a team that has won every game on the schedule, Sciba, simply put, is as good as it gets.
Beyond just this season, Sciba’s resume is one that still stands out. He made 19-of-22 field goals as a true freshman, including three kicks in a three-point win over Memphis in the Birmingham Bowl. Sciba was nearly perfect as a sophomore, making 24-of-25 field goals. His work included five kicks in a two-point victory over Florida State and four more in a win over Duke. As a junior, Sciba made 12 consecutive field goals to finish the season. In addition to his all-conference accolades on the field, Sciba has also earned Academic All-ACC honors.
As Wake Forest continues to contend in-league and nationally, special teams play will continue to be a big reason why. In addition to Sciba’s unprecedented success, Ja’Sir Taylor has been one of the best kick return specialists in the country, tops in the ACC, and took his first attempt of the season back 99 yards for a touchdown. The Demon Deacons lead the conference in punt return average, with Taylor Morin averaging eleven yards per attempt. Punter Ivan Mora just had his best game of the year.
The second half of the season will come with a number of challenges and opportunities alike for undefeated Wake Forest. For those upcoming clutch moments and key spots, the Demon Deacons have a generational talent ready and waiting. Nobody, from nearly anywhere on the plus side of the field, has been better. Correspondingly, Wake Forest is 10-3 in games decided by six points or less in Sciba’s career. That proficiency now comes with a national platform.
For four years now, Sciba has almost always been good. His legacy, with records and wins adding up, is far greater than that.
