Running a 4.6 second 40-yard dash at six-foot-four, Anthony Beck could play a number of positions at the next level.
For class of 2018 quarterback/athlete Anthony Beck, his high school career has already come full circle despite the fact that he has not even yet finished up his sophomore year.
After playing for the South Effingham Rebels in Guyton, Georgia, as a freshman in 2014, Beck moved with his family to Colorado, where he would ultimately win the starting job at quarterback at Monarch High School, for his sophomore season.
But after just one season out west, Beck’s family moved back to the Peach State, re-enrolling him at South Effingham, where he first started his career.
Now back on the east coast, Beck recently had the opportunity to attend the recent Explosive Southern Pigskin Football Camp in Pooler to showcase his skills against some of the best prospects the area has to offer. Beck would make the most of his opportunity as well, earning co-MVP honors at the quarterback position.
Measuring in at 6-4, 195 pounds, the sophomore initially stood out to the coaches in attendance when he posted an impressive 4.6 in the 40-yard dash, showing why many people believe that he could also have a successful career as a wide receiver should the Mustangs choose to go that route.
But Beck later went on to show that he is more than just an above-average athlete. Beck displayed excellent arm strength and displayed surprising accuracy when throwing the football during one-on-one drills. When the passing drills eventually evolved to two-on-two and three-on-three matchups, Beck was able to make quick and intelligent decisions with the football and deliver a very catchable ball.
“I have had the offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator at South Effingham fight over me a little bit,” Beck remarked when asked to comment on his athleticism and versatility. “They want me at defensive back, wide receiver and quarterback, and I punted my freshman year. So wherever the coaches need me is where I plan on going.”
Because of his unique set of skills, it is somewhat difficult to project where Beck might end up playing this upcoming season, much less in college.
One thing is certain, though: With his talent and athleticism, some college program is ultimately going to land itself a valuable weapon at a skill position.
