Ranked as a top ten prospect nationally for the class of 2016, Demetris Robertson received over 50 scholarship offers from schools around the country during the recruiting process.
One of the longest and most unique recruitments in college football history came to a conclusion on Sunday afternoon, as five-star athlete Demetris Robertson announced his intention to play his college football at the University of California.
Ranked as a top ten prospect nationally for the class of 2016, Robertson, who was at one point a verbal commitment to Alabama, received over 50 scholarship offers from schools around the country during the recruiting process.
With so many choices in play, Robertson chose not to sign his letter of intent on National Signing Day, opting instead to continue taking visits and talking with college coaches in order to make his final decision.
Robertson’s decision came as a surprise to many, as Georgia and Notre Dame were considered by most experts to the perceived favorites to land his services.
Ultimately, however, Robertson decided that the combination of academics and athletics offered by Cal was too much to pass up, even if it means playing his college football across the country on the west coast.
Robertson was recruited by some schools as a defensive back, but is expected to start off his career as a receiver for the Bears.
