Jonah Brooks is opening eyes in North Carolina, no rock is left unturned. It’s almost closing time.

UNC-bound running back leads team to championship game

Salisbury High School running back Romar Morris who committed to North Carolina earlier this year has led his team to the 2-AA state championship game to be played on Saturday.

Morris, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound running back is arguably the fastest player in the state. The track star turned football player rushed for 1,330 yards and 17 touchdowns as a junior and has rushed for over 1,600 yards and scored 28 touchdowns this year.

Morris is also a state championship sprinter and runs a 4.32 time in the 40-yard-dash. His breakaway speed and elusiveness has been hard to contain on the football field as he’s averaged 10.5 yards per carry and made him nearly unstoppable as a kick returner.

Receiver gets on more chance to impress

Jonah Brooks has been selected to the North Carolina team for the 2010 Shrine Bowl. The electric receiver from Burns High School in Lawndale, N.C. has been burning receivers deep all season long in route to a record breaking season.

Brooks may be the best receiver in the state of North Carolina that nobody has been talking about. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound senior set school and county records for receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns while leading Burns to an 11-2 record.

There has been little interest in Brooks this year on the recruiting front, but his size, speed, and athleticism will be an asset to any college. He had 75 receptions for 1,286 yards and scored 19 touchdowns as a senior capping a brilliant high school career.

A few schools have shown interest in Brooks but a stellar performance at the Shrine Bowl could raise his stock in the eyes of college coaches.

Hard hitting linebacker named N.C. player of the year

Anson County’s Stephone Anthony, the blue-chip linebacker with possibly the highest up-side in college has been named the Gatorade N.C. football player of the year.

The award which recognizes both character and excellence on the field is the highest award given to a player in the state. Anthony, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound linebacker punished offensive players all season long and recorded 123 tackles and four sacks.

Anthony also was credited with six pass breakups, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles. He has been selected as an Under Armour All-American and also played running back and returned kicks making him a complete player.

It’s been widely speculated that he will attend Virginia Tech and is expected to make his announcement during the Under Armour All-American game.
