Not only is the dynasty not slowing down, Alabama has somehow found even more momentum.
In the past month, Alabama has won yet another national championship, the 18th in program history and the sixth under Nick Saban, and brought in the highest-rated recruiting class in college football history. The Crimson Tide have long been the national standard for signing top prep talent, but this 2020-2021 class has challenged and changed the status quo. Per 247 Sports, Alabama’s class score stands at an unparalleled high of 326.45, with 13 of the top 90 players in the country coming to Tuscaloosa.
Among other standouts, the Crimson Tide signed seven five-star prospects: offensive tackle Tommy Brockermeyer, wide receiver Jacorey Brooks, offensive tackle JC Latham, cornerback Ga’Quincy McKinstry, defensive tackle Damon Payne, defensive end Dallas Turner and running back Camar Wheaton. Of that group alone, Alabama both stayed at home and went into Florida, Maryland and Texas. Locally, regionally and nationally, the Crimson Tide remain the game’s biggest brand.
Not only is the dynasty not slowing down, Alabama has somehow found even more momentum.
The Crimson Tide just had an undefeated national championship season where they were played within 17 points just once, led the SEC in both scoring offense and scoring defense, outscored Notre Dame and Clemson in the College Football Playoff by a combined score of 83-38, had six first-team All-Americans, eight national award winners, including DeVonta Smith claiming the Heisman Trophy, and already have pundits asking if 2020 Alabama is the greatest team ever.
Now the Crimson Tide have added the best recruiting class of all-time.
In an era where many true freshmen play and make a leading impact right away at the next level, Alabama’s latest class only affirms 2021 expectations for the Crimson Tide. Even with a staggering amount of talent moving onto the NFL, Alabama will, of course, be one of the very few national favorites this fall. At least a half dozen Crimson Tide players are likely to be first round selections in the upcoming draft; Alabama’s heralded incoming talent will debut as the next wave.
After winning the national championship, the Crimson Tide have continued to go right to work. Saban has added more elite coaches to his staff, including two recent NFL head coaches in Bill O’Brien at offensive coordinator and Doug Marrone to coach the offensive line. Fresh off a real title, Alabama has promptly added a recruiting title. Excellence remains the unrelenting standard.
There may have never been a team quite like the latest edition of the Crimson Tide. There may have never been a class like this, either.
Great programs win big games. Great programs recruit well. Alabama does both and does so a rate that continues to raise the bar.
