Stetson Bennett has consistently come up big. His contributions have helped Georgia win.
Stetson Bennett continues to play well. Georgia’s reserve quarterback continues to add to his numbers and his legacy as the Bulldogs, consistently playing like a leading contender, continue to win and win with ease. Bennett now has two wins over Auburn. After completing 17-of-28 passes for 240 yards and touchdown against the Tigers last season, he promptly went 14-of-21 for 231 yards and two more scores on Saturday on the Plains. Yet again, Georgia comfortably defeated nationally-ranked Auburn. Yet again, Bennett was a big reason why.
With J.T. Daniels battling injury, Bennett has been invaluable. He, a former walk-on, started five games for the Bulldogs a year ago. Bennett now has three more starts this fall. He made history in the first half against UAB earlier this season, completing 8-of-9 passes for 269 yards and a program record-tying five touchdowns, all before intermission. For the season, Bennett is completing over 70% of his throws, is averaging over 12 yards per attempt and has eight touchdown passes compared to just two interceptions.
Just for frame of reference, Bennett’s passer rating is currently 206.55. Mac Jones set a new single-season FBS record a year ago at 203.06.
On the road against Auburn, Bennett had a short scoring pass to Adonai Mitchell and a 60-yard touchdown heave to Ladd McConkey, the longest pass play converted versus the Tigers all season. Bennett even rushed for a career-high 41 yards. In all, against the 3rd-ranked defense in the SEC, he helped Georgia to 34 points, 432 yards and 22 first downs, all without a single turnover and just 18 team penalty yards. The Bulldogs held a 17-3 lead midway through the third quarter.
Georgia’s defense is, without question, the best in college football. The offensive line is great and the playmakers, with running back Zamir White scoring two more times on Saturday, are elite. Daniels is one of the top quarterbacks in the country. Bennett clearly has an important role, too. His return to Athens, transferring back in 2019 after a season of JUCO ball, has given the Bulldogs a boost. Last year to this season, Bennett has consistently come up big. His contributions have helped Georgia win.
Finishing his career in the top ten in Peach State history in passing yards and passing touchdowns, Bennett has made big throws for the Bulldogs. Saturday was just the latest example.
Simply put, Bennett is a key player for Georgia. He has the starts and the stats to prove it.
