Shane Beamer will replace Will Muschamp in Columbia.

Per reports, South Carolina has hired Shame Beamer as its next head football coach.

Recently the assistant head coach for offense and tight ends coach at Oklahoma, Beamer was with the Gamecocks under Steve Spurrier as the team’s linebackers and special teams coach and recruiting coordinator in 2009 and 2010 and cornerbacks coach from 2007-2008. He also has SEC experience from stints at Georgia and Mississippi State and a graduate assistant role at Tennessee.

A Charleston, South Carolina-native, Beamer is the son of legendary Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer, who coached at The Citadel from 1973-1978. Shane played for the Hokies as a receiver and long snapper.

Considered one of college football’s top recruiters, having previously helped bring acclaimed classes to Columbia with Spurrier, Beamer has a strong reputation for talent evaluation and signing highly-regarded classes. He is also regarded as a successful offensive-minded coach, having worked on that side of the football for the last ten years with Oklahoma, Georgia and, from 2011 to 2015, Virginia Tech. He helped the Sooners lead the nation in total offense in 2018, with Kyler Murray winning the Heisman Trophy.

In addition to learning from and working with his Hall of Fame father Frank, Beamer has worked for an impressive collection of head coaches in Lincoln Riley, Kirby Smart, Spurrier, Sylvester Croom, Phillip Fulmer and George O’Leary.

South Carolina will be Beamer’s first head coaching job.

Clearly, Beamer is very familiar with the Gamecocks, both from his time with the program and his time in the state. Beamer is a well-known name in college football and Shane has been one of the game’s most recognizable assistants.

With the South Carolina’s 2020 season now over, Beamer is expected to be introduced on Sunday.
