The ‘Head Ball Coach’ has joined the world of Twitter.
Steve Spurrier is one of the most accomplished individuals in college football history. He has won a Heisman Trophy, twice been named a first-team All-American, won a national championship, seven conference titles and nine league coach of the year honors. In 1986, Spurrier was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. On Monday, he joined twitter.
Having been called “coach” since 1978, Spurrier, on Twitter, now goes by @SC_HBC. The one phrase description of the account is a simple one: “Official Account of the HBC”. Spurrier’s first tweet was an homage to his current and former players.
“1rst off/ Hello to all Gamecocks! I want to thank all past players at Duke at UF and UofSC and all present and future players #Heresc”

As one of the game’s top personalities, Spurrier’s decision to join Twitter has made national news. ESPN’s headline read: “#VisorToss: Gamecocks’ Spurrier on Twitter”.
The man who once said “you can’t spell Citrus without U-T” and coined “Free Shoes University” now has a new online sounding board. For years, Spurrier has been one of the best and most clever quotes in sports. He has countless one-liners that will long be part of college football lore. Now, he has 140 characters or less.
