National Signing Day has been a roller coaster of emotions for Georgia fans.
National Signing Day has been a roller coaster of emotions for Georgia fans. Three decommitted prospects ended up recommitting to the cG,d over the course of the day. However, there were also a few last seconds flips to other schools.
The 8Dawgs got off to a good start this morning when they picked up four-star offensive lineman, Patrick Allen from Maryland. Just minutes later, they also received a letter of intent from Daquan Hawkins, a three-star defensive tackle from Atlanta.
About half an hour after Hawkins signed, Georgia suffered a loss when defensive back Deontai Williams flipped to Ohio. Then, two hours later, things started looking up again when UGA received letters of intent from four-star defensive back Rico McGraw, who some felt might flip to Alabama, Jayson Stanley (Four-star wide receiver) and Kirby Choates (Three-star safety).
Four-star linebacker Roquan Smith had announced earlier that he would be heading west to UCLA, but around lunchtime, rumors began to swirl that he was still undecided between the Bruins and the Bulldogs. The coaching changes at UCLA seemed to have thrown a wrench in his decision making process, and apparently he will hold off on signing an LOI, possibly until later this week.
As the Roquan Smith drama was unfolding, four-star defensive back Shaquery Wilson flipped from West Virginia to Georgia. Then, just as things were starting to look up again, former UGA commit Van Jefferson officially became an Ole Miss Rebel.
As the sun set on national signing day, Richt and co. had one more trick up their sleeves. They may have lost highly touted wide out Van Jefferson, but they replaced him with five-star receiver Terry Godwin.
Regardless of what comes of the Roquan Smith situation, it was another great class for the Bulldogs. The jewels of the #Fam15, as theyve taken to calling themselves, are their two five-stars, Godwin and Trenton Thompson (DT) who are both top ten overall, and second at each of their respective positions.
To complement the two five-stars they also have commitments from ten four-stars and 14 three-stars. The class is currently ranked seventh by Rivals.com, for the second year in a row. They will join last years seventh ranked class with the 12th ranked class from both 2012 and 2013, as well as the remaining athletes from 2011s fifth ranked class.
Things are as promising as ever in Athens. The 8Dawgs continue to reload. Now it is just a matter of maximizing the talent at their disposal.
