The top performers from the Southern Conference in week four.

By Christian Goeckel

Korey Bridy, VMI: 27 carries, 113 yards, 1 TD; 2 receptions, 11 yards
Feed the hot hand. Following a career day last week at Western Carolina, Korey Bridy was due for some more touches, and he got xe2x80x98em. Bridy touched the ball 31 times in VMIxe2x80x99s 41-14 route of Mercer. Picking up first down after first down, Bridy scored the Keydetsxe2x80x99 first touchdown of the game early in the second quarter. A big back, at 6-0, 204 pounds, the junior showed off both speed and power, breaking big gains and grinding out tough yards. With the conferencexe2x80x99s best quarterback already in the backfield, the undefeated Keydets could become even more dangerous if Bridy can keep this upward trajectory going.

Donnavan Spencer, Western Carolina: 27 carries, 220 yards, 2 TD; 2 receptions 45 yards
Listen, when you pick up 220 yards at an 8.1 yards per carry clip, youxe2x80x99re going to be featured on this list. Donovan had an absurd day against The Citadel as the Catamounts finally earned a win. The redshirt-senior was responsible for all of the offensive production on Western Carolinaxe2x80x99s first scoring drive and later broke free for a 67-yard touchdown that would prove to be the game-winner. This was Spencer’s fifth 100-yard game as a Catamount, and helped provide the program with a much-needed win.

Liam Welch – Samford – 24-36, 359 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT; 9 carries, 20 yards
Efficiency; that was the name of the game for Liam Welch as he led Samford past the No. 20 Wofford Terriers. Making his third consecutive start, Welch was intercepted on his first throw of the game, but went on to post a career-high in passing yards from there. When executed properly, a Chris Hatcher offense keeps a defense on its heels. Quick screens, inside-trap plays, and big crossing routes on play-action are all staples of the offense, and Welch put them to use on Saturday. This was actually the first time this season that Welch failed to complete 70% of his passes, but the grad-senior was able to hit the big plays consistently, and help deliver Samford a huge win.

Devin Wynn, Furman: 15 carries, 113 yards, 2 TD; 2 receptions, 39 yards
xe2x80x9cWelp, when all else fails, turn around and hand the ball to the best player on your team.xe2x80x9d Itxe2x80x99s a statement I heard a college offensive coordinator make, and one that remains true at all levels of football — so long as you have a stud to hand the ball to. Luckily for Furman, thatxe2x80x99s exactly what they have in Devin Wynn. Facing a 10-0 halftime deficit at ETSU, the Paladins were struggling on offense. Wynn himself had just 23 yards at the intermission. The problem: Wynn only had five touches in the first half. The solution: Give Wynn the ball more. That change occurred in the third quarter. The All-SoCon performer scored twice in the period to flip the score, and would go on to finish the game with 152 total yards. Furman improved to 3-1 on the year with the 17-13 win over ETSU. The most impressive stat from the performance: Facing stacked boxes, in a run-heavy offense, none of Wynnxe2x80x99s touches went for negative yardage.
