Furman ended its lengthy SoCon losing streak by defeating Wofford on Saturday.
Wofford 14, Furman 31
PJ Blazejowski was just about perfect in Furman’s big win over Wofford. The freshman completed all 15 of his passing attempts for 305 yards and scored three total touchdowns. Blazejowski spread the ball around pretty well, but Jordan Snellings stood out amongst the receivers, catching four passes for 118 yards and a touchdown. Andrej Suttles also had a good game, going for 103 yards and a score on three receptions. Wofford was led by Ray Smith who carried the ball fifteen times for 130 yards, but between a lack of a passing game and a few turnovers, the Terriers failed to score very many points.
Samford 20, Citadel 17
This game went all the way down to the wire. Things looked pretty grim for Samford when Aaron Miller ran the ball in to take the lead with under two minutes to go. The Miller touchdown, his second of the day, capped off a stellar 14 play, 70 yard drive that bled six and a half minutes off the clock. There was plenty of time, though, for Michael Eubank and the Samford offense who went all the way down the field in nine plays, including a key fourth down conversion. The drive finished when Denzel Williams punched it into the end zone from two yards out for the go ahead score.
VMI 27, Western Carolina 42
Troy Mitchell lit up the Keydets yesterday for five passing touchdowns and 339 yards. The game was never really in doubt for the Catamounts and it rarely is behind that sort of play from under center. The Troy Mitchell show was in full bloom as he showed off his mobility, rushing for another 109 yards and a score. Karnorris Benson was the go to receiver, bringing in eight balls for 127 yards and four touchdowns. Al Cobb led the Keydets with 321 yards and two touchdowns, but he threw a pair of interceptions to dampen his performance.
Warner 0, Mercer 56
This game was supposed to be a blowout and Mercer did not disappoint. Alex Lakes carried most of the load for the Bears with 21 touches for 113 yards and four scores. Coach Bobby Lamb used this as an opportunity to get some guys playing time that don’t usually see the field as often. Mercer held the Royals to only 123 yards of offense.
Chattanooga 38, Tennessee Tech 17
Jacob Huesman did his part to contribute to the theme of great quarterback play in the SoCon this week. The head coach’s son went 21/37 with 234 yards passing, 89 yards on the ground, five total touchdowns and a pick. The Mocs dominated time of possession, controlling the ball for twice as long as their opponents. The defense also played well, holding Tennessee Tech to just 171 yards of offense.
