Ranking the top five quarterbacks in the Southern Conference.
n1. Jacob Huesman, Chattanooga — Huesman, who took the Mocs to the playoffs a year ago, is one of the premier talents in FCS football. He threw for over 2,700 yards, rushed for more than 1,000 and scored 37 total touchdowns. Led by Huesman, Chattanooga had the SoCon’s best offense last fall.
n2. Troy Mitchell, Western Carolina — A big reason for the Catamounts’ recent success, Mitchell scored 26 total touchdowns in 2014. He completed nearly 66% of his passes for over 2,500 yards and had better than a two-to-one touchdown-to-interception ratio last season. Mitchell is also a dynamic runner.
n3. Al Cobb, VMI — The reigning SoCon Freshman of the Year, Cobb finished with a league-high 2,971 passing yards a year ago. He added 20 touchdown passes. Cobb threw for 396 yards in a loss to The Citadel.
n4. John Russ, Mercer — Russ was quite productive in his SoCon debut. On a roster without upperclassmen, Russ threw for 19 touchdowns and ran for five more this past season. As a freshman in the Pioneer League, he scored 33 total touchdowns.
n5. Michael Eubank, Samford — An Arizona State-transfer, Eubank threw a dozen touchdown passes, rushed for five more scores and even had a touchdown reception. He was a big reason why the Bulldogs averaged over 32 points per game in 2014.
