Looking back at all the Sun Belt action from week six.

New Mexico State 3, Ole Miss 52

The Aggies moved to 0-5 on the year, following their loss to 14th ranked Ole Miss. NMSU was out gained on offense by its opponents 239 yards to 665 yards. If there were any positives to take away, it would be that New Mexico State dominated the time of possession, and actually won the turnover battle, despite throwing two interceptions, against a much more talented squad.

Appalachian State 37, Georgia State 3

Appalachian State continues to look like one of the favorites to win the Sun Belt, after blowout victory in the Georgia Dome. The Mountaineers could not have asked for a better conference opening performance. Conversely, the Panthers put on one of their worst performances of the season. Nick Arbuckle was far and away better against Oregons defense than App States. Then again, from what weve seen so far, it isnt a stretch to say that the Mountaineers defense could just be flat out better than Oregons. Taylor Lamb, our Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week, lit up the stat sheet, completing 18 of his 24 attempts for 291 yards, three touchdowns and a pick. The coming two-week stretch could see Lamb and co. take a stranglehold on the conference as they travel to Louisiana Monroe and then get the defending champions, Georgia Southern, at home.

Troy 17, Mississippi State 45

Defensively, Troy did not play as bad as the scoreboard would make it seem. The Trojans held their SEC opponents to just 336 yards of offense, but just allowed to many explosive passing plays. Offensively, Troy sputtered, managing just 254 yards of offense, but still putting 17 points on the board. The Trojans did dominate the time of possession by more than 20 minutes, but to upset a team like that, you have to force turnovers, which Troy failed to do even once.

Louisiana Monroe 24, Tulsa 34

Ajalen Holley, who has really been coming into his own lately, was the best player on the field for the Warhawks. Holley finished with 11 catches for 113 yards and a touchdown. Turnovers killed ULM. Tulsa did not turn the ball over once, but forced three turnovers. Betwwen that and the penalties, the Warhawks continued to shoot themselves in the foot. They will need to play a much better game when the red hot Appalachian State Mountaineers come to town, next week.

Texas State 27, Louisiana 49

The Ragin Cajuns lit up the scoreboard like Times Square on New Years Eve. Jalen Nixon was phenomenal, completing 22 of his 29 attempts for 238 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. Elijah Mcguire was reliable all day, carrying the ball 28 times for 170 yards and a score. There were a number of big plays in this one, including a kickoff return touchdown by both teams. These two teams will go into their respective bye weeks with very different attitudes.
