After the best game of his career, Logan Wright is on the national radar.
Georgia Southern’s Logan Wright has been one of college football’s best running backs. He currently leads the Sun Belt with 117.2 yards from scrimmage per game. It’s not just Wright’s production that is impressive, 484 rushing yards and 104 receiving yards, his proficiency is what truly stands out.
One month into the season, Wright is averaging 8.46 yards per rush and 14.86 yards per reception. Of running backs with at least 55 attempts, he ranks second in the country in yards per carry. Wright, furthermore, is tied for the national lead amongst running backs with eight rushes of ten yards or more. He is tied for second overall with eight runs of at least 20 yards, tied for third with four runs of at least 30 yards, tied for third with three runs of at least 40 yards and tied for third with two runs of at least 50 yards.
Wright’s home run ability was on clear display in Georgia Southern’s 59-33 win over Arkansas State on Saturday as he ran for 208 yards and two touchdowns on just ten carries. Wright averaged over 20 yards per attempt. His scoring runs were of 59 yards and 41 yards. In a spotlight performance, Wright set the tone offensively as the Eagles rushed for over 500 yards, with seven touchdowns.
Twice this year, Wright has reached double digits in carries; he rushed 26 times for 177 yards and a touchdown in the season-opener against Gardner-Webb and then ten times for 214 and two scores against Arkansas State last Saturday. When Wright has at least a dozen carries in a single game during his career, the Eagles are 6-1, the lone loss coming at top-ranked eventual national champion LSU in 2019.
Georgia Southern has one of the best rushing attacks in all of college football, currently averaging 287.6 yards per game, with Wright leading the way. At the running back position, Gerald Green and Jalen White both have 100-yard games this season, hybrid playmaker Amare Jones rushed for 98 yards in week one and star J.D. King is getting back into the rotation after dealing with injury. Quarterback Justin Tomlin also has rushing touchdowns in two of the Eagles’ last three games.
After the best game of his career, Wright is on the national radar. He steps into the spotlight in all-out sprint.
